Lest We Forget

Lest We Forget Today the Commonwealth Nations remember those who fell in the First World War. Soldiers that gave their lives, fighting a war for earthly freedom and for justice. They paid the highest price in a time when there was so much to lose. They are worthy of honour, for “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” John 15:13

The honour they receive every year is but a splinter of the honour that the Lord Jesus, the very one who said those words, deserves. For he laid down his life for spiritual freedom. The significance of the victory of Jesus on the Cross, goes beyond what any Earth-bound war ever could have.

Jesus was victorious in the cosmic war against sin and death. A war that was spoken of for over a century in the history of Israel. The Son of God came down and won the battle against Satan and his soldiers, removing all of their weapons, and tying them up on a leash. Jesus died in our place, and rose again, showing his power over death, so that we can defeat death through him.

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:57

No more will the mistakes that we make become the grounds for our slavery, our imprisonment, our separation from God. Instead, as the Apostle Paul said, “there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day–and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:8).

Jesus has broken the chains and won the victory. We can now, through seeking him above all else, be crowned with him. “Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever” (1 Corinthians 9:25).

Lest we forget. Both those who gave there lives for us in WW1, and for the Lord Jesus who gave his life so that we can live forever with him in Eternity. Don’t forget Jesus’ sacrifice, but instead long for his appearing so that you can be victorious in him!
